Tuesday, the Assembly Public Safety Committee will be taking up AB 2340, authored by Assemblymember James Gallagher (R-Nicolaus), which will allow someone with a concealed carry permit AND a domestic violence restraining order to carry a firearm on school grounds.
This bill tackles one of the issues raised with last year's SB 707, which passed on a largely partisan vote in the Assembly, with the exception of Republican Assemblymembers Eric Linder and Catherine Baker who voted in favor of stripping away the rights of victims of domestic violence and stalking, among others.
While FPC supports the full repeal of the law, we cannot argue that victims of domestic violence who hold a carry permit should be denied their right to protect themselves.
Please help us fight to get this commonsense measure into law.
