Why Your FPC Membership Is More Important Than Ever

When you join FPC, you’re directly supporting high-impact strategic litigation, research, legislative and regulatory action, grassroots activism, education, outreach, and other campaigns to end gun control throughout the United States. And now, your FPC membership can also be critically important to protect your safety and security when you exercise your rights.

In June 2025, the Supreme Court held in Trump v. CASA that so-called “universal injunctions” “likely exceed the equitable authority that Congress has granted to federal courts.” Because of this decision, the government and some courts are limiting the application of relief sometimes only to named plaintiffs, such as FPC and its members. So, when a court issues an order blocking a government from enforcing an unconstitutional gun control law, it may apply only to named individuals and FPC members. And government officials may ask for proof that you’re an active member of FPC before honoring those court orders.

For example:

  • In Hoffman v. Bonta, the district court enjoined California’s ban on non-residents applying for carry (“CCW”) licenses—but only for the named individuals and FPC members
  • And in FPC v. Bondi, the district court enjoined enforcement of the federal carry ban at most post offices and surrounding property—but limited the relief to the named plaintiffs and the organizational plaintiffs’ members, including FPC’s members.
