Bill: MA H 2487
Sponsor(s): Rep. David Paul Linsky (D-5)
Position: Strongly Opposed
Summary: Mandates Gun Owner Liability Insurance
MA H 2487 would require gun owners to carry minimum liability insurance. Failure to carry the insurance would result in a fine of $500 to $5,000, up to a year in prison, or both.
So how much is the insurance? HD 136 would give the Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner the authority to set minimum coverage requirements, which means that the state could set the insurance rate so high that most people couldn’t afford it, if the product even existed.
But no insurance company in the world would ever insure a policy like that. Meaning this could be a blanket ban on gun ownership.
