SB 5027 would expand the already dangerous and unconstitutional Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) scheme in 2 significant ways.

First, this bill would allow individuals to file for gun violence restraining orders against minors.

Second, this bill would require parents of such restrained minors to “safely secure” their firearms to prevent access by the minor, effectively preventing access by the non-prohibited parents and infringing on their rights of self-protection. Furthermore, those parents would be criminally liable if the minor in question obtained access to them.
