Bill/Issue: HR 125 (AKA the "Gun Safety: Not Sorry Act of 2021")Federal Waiting Period For Semiautos, Magazines & Ammo

Author: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX)

Position: Strongly Opposed

Summary: Institutes a federal waiting period for semiautomatic firearms, "high-capacity" magazines, armor piercing ammunition, and suppressors.

HR 125 is an extremely draconian bill that would amend Title 18 of the U.S. Code to institute a federal 7-day waiting period on semiautomatic firearms, so-called "high-capacity" magazines, armor piercing ammo, and even suppressors.

This legislation is meant to logjam the transfer of guns & ammo even more. Indeed, we are already in the middle of historic shortages, and now Rep. Jackson Lee wants to delay these purchases when gun owners may need them the most.

Additionally, this legislation is problematic because it seeks to impose a waiting period on "armor piercing" ammo, but offers no definition of what the government would restrict. As you know, depending on the type of body armor that is used, many common calibers - even including pistol calibers -are capable of penetration. Therefore, HR 125 could conceivably impose a waiting period on any ammo more potent than .380!

Laughably, HR 125 would also force you to wait another 7 days before picking up a suppressor despite the fact the NFA process for acquiring one is already extremely long and burdensome. So yet again, we have another ignorant legislator who does not understand the law, yet seeks to make it for the rest of us.

HR 125 is a baseless and insulting attack on gun owners. Please help FPC stop this legislation by using our Take Action form below to contact Rep. Jackson Lee. Tell her to WITHDRAW HR 125!
