Guns.com: Washington court blocks 2A groups' bid to derail gun control ballot measure
Court Commissioner Michael Johnston on Tuesday denied a motion filed last week by Second Amendment groups seeking to contest the petitions used by organizers of I-1639. Johnson came to the conclusion that the gun rights organizations didn’t have legal standing to challenge the initiative during the petition process, and the court could not force Secretary of State Kim Wyman to invalidate the current signatures gathered.
Reason: The Second Amendment 'has become optional"
Ten years ago this week, the Supreme Court for the first time explicitly recognized that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to armed self-defense. Since then the Court has revisited the subject only twice, while it has heard about 45 cases involving the Fourth Amendment and about 60 involving the First.
