In addition to AB 2607 passing, yesterday also marked the death blow to three pro gun bills, two of which we sponsored.
They were up for “reconsideration” by the Assembly Public Safety Committee, meaning they failed once but could be voted on again.
These bills were AB 2229 (Grove, Sponsored by FPC), which would have exempted current gun owners from the 10 day waiting period, AB 2340 (Gallagher), which would have allowed victims of domestic violence to carry on school grounds if they also had a valid CCW, and AB 2508 (Mathis, Sponsored by FPC), which would have allowed handguns back on the roster.
While we knew their fate was more than likely sealed, there was a glimmer of hope that they may pass.
Unfortunately it was only a glimmer, but that doesn’t mean we should just relegate them and their authors to the Legislative record.
Please join with FPC in sending a quick email thanking the following Assemblymembers for sticking their neck out for gun owners and running common sense, pro-gun bills.
Asm. Shannon Grove: [email protected]
Asm. James Gallagher: [email protected]
Asm. Devon Mathis: [email protected]
We spend so much time opposing bills that we rarely take the time to thank our allies. Please take a minute to ensure that they know we appreciate them risking their political future to stand up for our rights.
