SACRAMENTO, CA (February 28, 2018) — Earlier today, Edward W. Stack, chairman and CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc. (NYSE: DKS), issued a troubling statement on behalf of the company that said not only would the retailer no longer sell some common firearms or standard-capacity firearm magazines at all, it would impose a voluntary ban on sales to “anyone under 21 years of age.” It also called for sweeping new and unconstitutional gun control measures to be passed.
Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) strongly opposes bans on semi-automatic firearms, magazines, parts, and accessories. The Sacramento-based constitutional rights advocacy group also strongly opposes age-based discrimination and restrictions on the fundamental, individual rights of legal adults, such as the Dick’s policy banning gun sales to those under the age of 21.
“Dick’s Sporting Goods is really living up to its name,” said FPC Grassroots Director Richard Thomson. “Gun owners across the United States are watching Dick’s choke on gun control, and we’re disgusted.”
“Law-abiding gun owners need to show Dick’s that we don’t tolerate turncoats or traitors to our constitutional rights,” Thomson continued. “We gun owners will be taking our business to local gun shops and retailers where our Second Amendment civil rights matter.”
Thomson notes that Stack and Dick’s has pulled similar anti-gun political stunts in the past.
“At this point, it’s crystal clear that Dick’s and its billionaire trust fund baby CEO Ed Stack support age-based discrimination and gun bans,” concluded Thomson. “Law-abiding American gun owners and outdoors enthusiasts need to hit them in the pocketbook. Let’s show them that we will not shop for any kind of product where discrimination and bigotry are promoted.”
Dick’s Sporting Goods also owns and operates many “Field & Stream”-branded stores in addition to its hundreds of other Dick’s locations.
Gun owners who want to tell Dick’s Sporting Goods and Edward Stack that they will be shopping elsewhere can send the retail chain a message at firearmspolicy.org/bye_dicks or www.nomoredicks.today.
Firearms Policy Coalition (www.firearmspolicy.org) is a 501(c)4 grassroots nonprofit organization. FPC’s mission is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, especially the fundamental, individual Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
