SANTA ANA, CA (November  21, 2023) – Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced the filing of a reply brief in support of its motion for preliminary injunction against multiple parts of California SB2, which unilaterally declared numerous locations as “sensitive places” where the carry of firearms by licensed, law-abiding Californians is banned. The brief in Carralero v. Bonta can be viewed at FPCLegal.org.

“In sum, California, defying Bruen, has designated large swaths of public life ‘gun free zones,’” argues the brief. “In doing so, it ignores the Supreme Court’s instruction that ‘sensitive places’ are ‘few’ and ‘exceptional.’ This Court should join the growing chorus of cases holding that such broad-based locations restrictions on public carry violate the Second Amendment after Bruen.”

“California’s attempt to disarm peaceable Californians extends not just to banning arms, but also to preventing peaceable carry permit holders from carrying their arms in a plethora of locations across the State,” said Cody J. Wisniewski, FPC Action Foundation’s General Counsel and Vice President of Legal, and counsel for FPC. “What is clear, however, is that California lacks the authority to ban arms in the vast majority of these places. We’re looking forward to the Court enjoining these regulations while we have the opportunity to litigate the full case.”

FPC is joined in this lawsuit by three individuals, Orange County Gun Owners, San Diego County Gun Owners, and California Gun Rights Foundation.
