So-called "red rlag" confiscation laws (a.k.a. "Extreme Risk Protection Orders") allow people -- ranging from family members to co-workers -- to secretly petition a judge to have your firearms, ammunition, magazines, etc. taken away from you by armed police officers.
Under this draconian gun confiscation scheme, individuals would be able to claim you are a danger to yourself or others. And a judge could decide without you even being present that you should be disarmed and prohibited from possessing guns -- even ones you already have.
You would not even be guaranteed the basic right to confront your accuser. And your fate could even be decided without a preponderance of evidence or actual suspicion that you have committed a crime.
"Red Flag" laws stand for the proposition that everyone is guilty unless they can prove their way out of an accusation. But we know that merely owning a gun doesn't mean you're now guilty until proven innocent.
But they are now being pushed by Senate Republicans -- like Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsay Graham and Senator Marco Rubio.
