MO SB 41 would needlessly confiscate firearms from people recently convicted of misdemeanor-level offenses. Indeed, this bill would allow police to seize guns from anyone found guilty of misdemeanor domestic violence in the last five years.

While we do not condone such criminal activity, we nevertheless do not feel it is appropriate to render people defenseless especially in cases where the individual has not been convicted of a felony.

More importantly, this bill represents taking another step toward expanding the groups of people who must surrender their firearm. For now, the bar is set at misdemeanor domestic violence. But tomorrow? Who knows!
