Summary: AB 638 would prevent the establishing of new gun stores within 500ft of a child care or educational facility or place of worship. Child care facilities include private day cares and sports fields where youth sports are played. In a state with as dense of a population as New York, this could mean that no gun stores will be able to open. AB 638 will cause an inadequate supply of firearms in many parts of New York state, leaving many New Yorkers improperly defended.
