While Missouri’s bill deregulating the concealed-carry permit process is dead in the water, Kansas is preparing for its residents to have the ability to conceal their weapons without a permit.

In early April, Gov. Sam Brownback signed a bill that will eliminate the necessity of having a permit while carrying a concealed firearm. The new law goes into effect July 1.

While the bill allows Kansans 21 and older to carry a weapon concealed without a permit or training, if they travel outside of the state they will be required to prove they have undergone training for their firearms.

Atchison County (Kan.) Sheriff Jack Laurie believes concealed carry laws and permits have no bearing on keeping firearms out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them. He said individuals should do everything they can to secure their weapons and be cautious about where guns are left.
