Stay Alert.

Richard August of the Providence Journal reports:

Twenty-nine firearms-related bills were introduced in this session of the [Rhode Island] General Assembly. Two of these can be termed gun friendly and one, having to do with poaching elephants, has nothing to do with firearms. The rest of the measures are usually described as “common-sense solutions to gun violence." All were held in committee “for further study."

The June 1 Political Scene column by Katherine Gregg and Jennifer Bogdan (“Support grows for gun limits in schools”) devoted four columns to companion bills introduced by Rep. Edith Ajello (H-5861) and Sen. Harold Metts (S-743) that would prohibit anyone with a permit to carry a concealed weapon from entering school grounds with a firearm.

....During the April 15 House Judiciary Committee hearing, Vice Chairperson Doreen Costa asked Representative Ajello if there had been any instances of concealed-carry permit holders being involved in a school shooting. Ajello wouldn’t or couldn’t answer the question. In other words, H-5861 is a solution looking for a problem.

....The ultimate goal of the anti-gun lobby has not changed. It is to hasten the day when the Second Amendment is overturned and no one is allowed to own or possess a firearm.
