WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 9, 2020) — Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) submitted a formal request to President Donald J. Trump requesting that the president order U.S. Attorney General William Barr and the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the actions of rogue ATF employees which led to the agency’s latest action against the Q, LLC’s (Q) regarding its Honey Badger pistol. A copy of the letter can be viewed at FPClaw.org.
In FPC’s letter, attorney and FPC Director of Legal Strategy Adam Kraut identified the ATF’s Chief Counsel’s office as the source of the authorization and oversight for the action taken against Q, stating that “[m]ost egregious is that those involved attempted to circumvent the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) order to not issue determinations on specific products and utilized the division in charge of criminal enforcement to carry out their anti-gun owner agenda.”
The correspondence explains that the determination is yet another instance of action taken that is arbitrary and capricious and politically motivated. Moreover, the letter urges that “[t]he persons involved in this outrageous and abusive unlawful exercise of power must not be allowed to continue holding their positions of authority. The ATF swamp must be drained, and you should take this opportunity to do just that.”
“Should termination not be an option, I strongly suggest the reassignment of all offending rogue officers, attorneys, agents, and/or employees to areas of the Agency where they may not run wild with personal or prior administration’s agendas. I hear Alaska is nice this time of year,” said Kraut in the FPC letter.
“Attorney General Barr and DOJ should take immediate action to ferret out the individuals responsible for advancing a personal or prior administration’s politically motivated agenda,” commented Kraut. “The longer those individuals remain in positions of authority within the ATF, the higher the risk of more actions which will damage the tenuous relationship between gun owners and President Trump.”
Firearms Policy Coalition (www.firearmspolicy.org) is a 501(c)4 grassroots nonprofit organization. FPC’s mission is to protect and defend constitutional rights—especially the right to keep and bear arms—advance individual liberty, and restore freedom.
