Update in Lawsuit Brought by Mexico in Today's FPC Daily 2A Legal Update

8/4/21

In today's FPC legal update, we have an update in a case brought by Mexico in Massachusetts' federal court.

Mexico v. Smith & Wesson

Issue: Liability

Court: District of Massachusetts

Action: Complaint

In this lawsuit, the Mexico Government is suing various gun companies, claiming that they "design, market, distribute, and sell guns in ways they know routinely arm the drug cartels in Mexico," while the country "has one gun store in the entire nation and issues fewer than 50 gun permits per year." The lawsuit also claims that the companies "design these guns to be easily modified to fire automatically and to be readily transferable on the criminal market in Mexico." The defendants will now have an opportunity to respond to the lawsuit.
