Dear President Barack Obama,

Our hearts go out to the families of the victims who died Wednesday in a Charleston, South Carolina church at the hands of a hate-filled monster.

It deeply saddens us that lives were taken by an evil person who took advantage of senseless laws that make it a crime for good, law-abiding South Carolinians to carry a firearm for self-defense in a “church or other established religious sanctuary.” Like all “gun free zone” laws, South Carolina’s failed to protect people because such laws cannot protect people.

But your statements that followed this horrific tragedy prove your loyalty is not to our Constitution or the rights and principles it protects, not to the People of the United States, and not to sound public policies, but to a relentlessly radical agenda that undermines the very tenets of liberty upon which our Republic was founded.

Your support of victim disarmament policies and “gun free zones”–spaces shielded by nothing more than invisible lines and wishful thinking–is not simply irrational, it is outright dangerous.

How many times must we see good people die because you, and others like you, oppose good people exercising their fundamental, individual right of self-defense?

You could be a leader. You could step up and promote policies that would have given these victims a chance, an opportunity.

But we know better. You will undoubtedly press on with your agenda. And we will continue to work tirelessly to restore our fundamental freedoms in hopes that, the next time a wicked person sets out to kill innocent people, those innocent people can use whatever force necessary to end the attack against them and save lives.
