Gun control advocates say Congress should look to California as a model for restricting devices such as the bump stock, the device used by the Las Vegas shooter to make his weapons mimic a machine gun.
Ari Freilich is with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in San Francisco. He says the bump stock has been restricted in California for more than 20 years.
“I don’t think it’s going to necessarily change any partisan minds but policy analysts are going to look at the experience of California to see if these laws in fact had any impact,” says Freilich.
Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein has proposed a federal ban on bump stocks.

Some Republicans in Congress have expressed support for banning the device.
