Firearms Policy Coalition is pleased to announce that California Governor Jerry Brown has signed SB 1382 by Senator Andy Vidak (R-14), a bill making it easier to transport firearms, into law.

Prior to the bill’s signing, Californians could only transport handguns in the trunk of their vehicles. However, this effectively shut out millions of law-abiding gun owners in the cold. Simply put, trunkless vehicles like pickup trucks did not count in the state’s eyes.

However, Californians may now legally transport handguns in a locked tool box or lockbox provided that it is affixed to the bed of a truck or other trunkless vehicle.

FPC led the charge in supporting this legislation. Indeed, we were the only gun rights organization on record in support of the bill.

It’s worth noting that wins like this are difficult to score in a state that has a particular disdain for the Constitution and individual freedom. But many more victories are possible if Second Amendment advocates are vocal enough.

FPC would like to thank all its members and supporters who helped make this victory possible. Help us continue the fight by joining FPC at JoinFPC.org!
