Earlier today, the Assembly Public Safety Committee passed AB 1663, AB 1664, and AB 1674 on a party line vote of 5-2, with all Democrats voting "aye" while all Republicans voted "no."
While it may not have been the best result, FPC and many other gun rights advocates made it challenging on the Committee. Turning what should have been a quick four bill hearing into a multiple hour process, FPC was able to point out the ludicrous problems that each bill will cause.
Because of this, FPC was able to convince the chair to not take a vote on AB 1673, which seeks to criminalize the possession of 80% (and even 0%!) lowers. The chair wanted to see if the author, Asm. Mike Gipson, could work out the "problems" and hear the bill at a later date.
After that news, Gipson was not all too happy that his bill to violate the Second Amendment was the only one not getting out of committee this morning. Feel free to give him a call and ask that he not reset the bill for a hearing: (916) 319-2064
The bills that passed this morning were:
AB 1663: will expand the assault weapons ban to include semi-automatic centerfire rifles capable of accepting detachable magazines, including ALL "Bullet Button" or mag-locked firearms, as well as many curio and relics like the M1 Carbine and other similar firearms.
AB 1664: will ban all semi-automatic rifles that are equipped with a bullet button or other mag-locking device.
AB 1674: will make it a crime to attempt to purchase more than one firearm of any type within a 30-day period and delete the private party transaction exemption to the 30-day prohibition.
They are now heading to the Appropriations committee and we need all the support we can get to beat them.
FPC is committed to defending the people’s fundamental, individual Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms at all costs.
But we cannot do it without your voice. We have these three bills now moving to the Appropriations Committee, AB 1673 still in Public Safety, and a slew of brand new bills about to hit.
Sign the petition below to let Sacramento politicians know that they need to get their grubby hands off the Second Amendment!
