Gun buyback programs have been tried - and have failed - over and over and over again. The failure of these programs to do ANYTHING to prevent crime is noted by publications such as USA Today and Everytown-funded The Trace.

Even Ceasefire Washington’s president, Ralph Piscitelli, says, “They’re just feel-good things that don’t do much real good.”

So why has Rep. Deutch (D-FL) proposed another one?

Deutch’s H.R. 445 establishes a federal gun buyback grant program and calls for a $15 MILLION budget to administer and carry out the program. It’s a waste of taxpayer money and law enforcement time and resources that we STRONGLY oppose!

When someone turns a gun into a buyback program, the guns aren’t tested to see if they’ve been used in a crime or even if they were possessed legally. Since it’s a no-questions asked program, criminals could use gun buyback problems to both dispose of a crime weapon (which is supposed to be destroyed by law enforcement post-surrender) AND get paid for it!

And the people running the gun buybacks are so dim that they can’t tell when they’re being fooled. Last year, Minnesota officials bought a piece of wood with a pipe attached to it with tape at a buyback program - and gave the “owner” a $100 Visa gift card!

When law enforcement departments are spending time and money orchestrating a buyback, they’re not on patrol or using more effective ways of dealing with criminals with guns.

Please stand with FPC and let your representatives know that you’re opposed to this ineffective, feel-good legislation that wastes taxpayer money and gives criminals a way to get rid of evidence against them.
