After the narrow passage of Question 1 on the November 2016 ballot, it was obvious that the anti-second amendment movement, led by New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg had declared war on the civil rights of Nevadans.
Well, now it appears that war is over for 2017 and the gun grabbers have lost on all fronts!
This year’s legislative session saw the introduction of three key pieces of anti-gun measures, all three of which failed to get to the governor’s desk.
SB 115 (Denis) would have designated public libraries to be “Gun Free Zones”, thus making it illegal to carry a firearm there. This measure passed out of the State Senate by a narrow margin, but failed to get a policy vote in the Assembly.
Another measure, SB 387 (Ratti) would have allowed for secret hearings where a distant relatives or scorned lovers could petition a judge to have someone’s right to own or possess a firearm taken away. Hearings on the bill included discussions about secret hearings, tactical units being used to seize firearms and several other ideas straight out of Orwell’s 1984. This measure also got out of the Senate, only to die in the Assembly.
And a measure that would have removed civil protections from those who legally use force to defend themselves outside of their home, never saw the light of day. SB 254 (Ford) was never brought up, as voters from all across the state made their voices heard, asking the Senate Leader to remove his bill from consideration.
This was all possible thanks to your support and your action!
And then there’s Question 1.
Nevada Attorney General Adam Paul Laxalt would rule the poorly written ballot initiative to be unenforceable, since his office lacks the authority to tell the Federal Bureau of Investigations what to do. This was a fitting end to this $20 million astro-turf effort to violate the rights of hard working Nevadans.
All of this is good news. But make no mistake. While this battle has been won, the war is far from over. The West Coast Wall of gun control is a very real threat. Anti-second amendment forces may be down. But as long as they have the backing of multi-billionaires like Bloomberg, they can never be counted out.
Make sure we’re ready for the next onslaught. We need to start preparing today to be ready for the fight tomorrow!
