Bill - S 1397 - Protecting the Second Amendment Act
- See also HR 1976 (companion bill)
- Position: Strongly Support
- Sponsor: Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL)
Under current law, federally licensed firearms retailers that are located in a border state are required to report to the ATF when they sell multiple guns to the same person.
If this sounds like a backdoor gun registration scheme, it's because it is. Penalizing a gun owner just for living in a border state is outrageous.
The Protecting the Second Amendment Act prohibits such arbitrary registration requirements. The Second Amendment should be applied equally and fairly across the country. Living in a border state is not a reason to infringe on the rights of law abiding firearms retailers or their customers.
