Bill/Issue: S 320 - Burdensome Firearms Storage for FFL

  • Position: Opposed
  • Author: Sen. Durbin (D-IL)

Summary: S 320 would mandate that all FFL dealers purchase excessive firearms storage security devices for use when the store is not open. If dealers do not comply, they will be at risk of losing their licence to sell. When mixed with the fact that S 320 allows the Attorney General to demand more storage and “safety” requirements, this bill will create a situation where firearms dealers will have to keep up to date with often hard to find and hard to understand regulation changes at the drop of the hat. These cumbersome and expensive requirements will do less to prevent the theft and more to burden store owners. This is a dangerous transfer of power from the legislative branch to the executive branch that will leave many towns with less gun stores.
