Bill: VA HB 2276

Sponsor(s): Delegate Marcus Simon (D-53)

Position:  Strongly Opposed

Summary: Criminalizes the import, sale, transfer, possession, or manufacturing of plastic firearms and unfinished frames or receivers.

If passed, VA HB 2276 would make it a felony to manufacture, import, sell, transfer, or possess any firearm that is undetectable by “detection devices” like X-ray machines, if all the parts are removed with the exception of a “major component”. Major components are defined as handgun slides, cylinders, and rifle and shotgun barrels.

In other words, if these parts are removed and the firearm doesn’t contain at least 3.7 ounces of detectable metal, it’s an illegal gun.
