Bill: CT AB 5531

Sponsor(s): Rep. Jillian Gilchrest (D-18)

Position: Strongly Opposed

Summary: Taxes Retail Ammunition Sales

AB 5531 would tax all ammunition offered for sale by gun shops at a rate of 2 cents for all rounds that are .22 caliber or smaller, and 5 cents per round for all other ammunition. The tax would be used to fund “qualifying gun violence prevention programs.”

It may be stating the obvious, but this bill will just ensure that it is harder to exercise a constitutional right, and cost prohibitive for lower or middle income individuals.
