Biden's nomination to lead the ATF, former ATF agent and current Giffords anti-gun activist, David “Waco” Chipman, had his initial nomination hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.

FPC vehemently opposes this nomination based on his track record, affiliations, and own statements against the Second Amendment.

Chipman was an ATF agent for 25 years (1988-2012) and served as a case agent in Waco. After leaving the ATF, Chipman immediately threw himself into anti-gun activism for Bloomberg-founded Mayors Against Illegal Guns where he advocated for “assault weapon” bans, magazine capacity restrictions, and upholding the NFA. Since 2016, Chipman has been been a Senior Policy Advisor for Giffords anti-gun campaign.

In 2019, Chipman told a U.S. House committee, “Simply reinstating the 90s-era ban on assault weapons is not enough...Instead, we should regulate a broader class of firearms, including assault weapons manufactured before the law's enactment...while banning the future manufacture and sale of these firearms."

David Chipman has also strongly argued for bans or restrictions on so-called “ghost guns” targeting an American tradition of home gunsmithing while having the audacity to call himself a “proud and responsible gun owner.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee is likely to vote on Chipman's nomination during their full committee meeting on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
