Bill/Issue: NY AB 625 & SB 446 - Gun Confiscation Before Conviction
- Position: Opposed
- Author: Asm. Rozic (D-25)
Summary: AB 625 and SB 446 would permit a law enforcement officer who is making an arrest for domestic violence to confiscate that person’s firearms. This would punish people not yet convicted of a crime and permit invasive house searches. These bills do not remove a weapon from the possession of a dangerous person as that person is already being arrested and taken to jail. This is simply another way for law enforcement to practice civil asset forfeiture on innocent people.
