The attacks on 2A rights continue in Illinois, as Sen. Morrison pushes SB 2130 a bill to radically increase gun regulation, controlling what firearms residents would be able to possess. John Richardson notes on his blog No Lawyers – Only Guns and Money:
In the wake of the 7th Circuit’s ludicrous decision in Friedman v. City of Highland Park in which the court upheld a gun ban based on “feelings”, the gun prohibitionists in the Illinois legislature are trying to strike while the iron is hot. State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) has filed SB 2130 which would eliminate state preemption of local firearm ordinances.
This bill is a direct attempt to remove guns from law-abiding Illinois residents. As The Associated Press reports:
Sen. Julie Morrison says her legislation is in response to a federal appeals court ruling last month that upheld Highland Park’s ban. The Deerfield Democrat says her measure would allow other cities to prohibit assault weapons. She says: “This is about local control.” [emphasis added]
