Alert: Calif. DOJ Issues “Guns & Marijuana” Notice to Dealers
On December 29, 2016, the California Department of Justice – lead by embattled Attorney General Kamala Harris, soon to be a U.S. Senator – issued an “IMPORTANT NOTICE” on “Federal Law on Marijuana and Gun Ownership” to California gun dealers that states, as follows:

TAKE ACTION: OPPOSE California DOJ’s “emergency” magazine ban regulations (deadline: 12/28)
Then last Friday, the Department of Justice informed us that "Comments for the subject regulations are due by 5:00 PM on December 28, 2016." Importantly, in order for a public comment on this matter to be recognized, it must be submitted to both the Department of Justice and the Office of Administrative Law.

Yesterday, in an order denying a motion to dismiss by Attorney General of the United States Loretta Lynch, Southern District of Illinois District Court Judge John Phil Gilbert ruled that plaintiff Larry Hatfield – “a convicted felon having pleaded guilty to, and was convicted of, one count of making false statements with regard to benefit claims under the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act” – can proceed in a case challenging (as applied to Hatfield) 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)’s lifetime ban on the possession of firearms and ammunition.
