Bill/Issue: CT HB 7223 - Mandatory Firearm Safe Storage in Vehicle

  • Position: Opposed
  • Author: House Judiciary Committee

Summary: HB 7223 would mandate that all handguns in a vehicle be stored inside a securely locked safe when not in the presence of a person over the age of 21 years of age. If convicted of improper storage, a person would be charged with a class D felony and have all firearms confiscated FOREVER. In no other situation with any other item would we seek to blame the victim of a criminal act. If someone breaks into your house, the police wouldn’t arrest you for your missing hammer or knives. HB 7223 is just disguised victim blaming and anti-gun condemnation that will put innocent gun owners in jail for the actions of criminals.

UPDATE: CT HB 7223 passed into law.
