“The problem is not gun laws,” says tearful father of 6-year-old Sandy Hook victim in testimony

A few of the comments by Mark Mattioli, father of 6 year-old Sandy Hook victim James Mattioli:

“The problem is not gun laws, the problem is a lack of civility.”

“I want responsible legislation. It needs to be simple and it needs to be enforced. We need much stricter enforcement. I believe in a few simple gun laws. I think we have more than enough on the books. We should hold people individually accountable for their actions.”

“I don’t think the gun laws are protecting the people. Let alone the 500 who perished last year in [Chicago]. What have those gun laws done to make Chicago a safer city?

“Criminals by definition break the law. What we experienced in Sandy Hook, did they break the law? Is one more law… I don’t care if you named it ‘James’ Law’ I don’t want it. I think we have more than enough [laws] on the books. We should hold people individually accountable for their actions and we should enforce laws appropriately.”

Living here in chicago is getting kinda of scary these gangs and people who shoot just to shoot and kill is getting out of control. Maybe McCarthy isn’t doing what he should be ever since he came on board crime has been up in chicago not saying it’s his fault but we need to start looking elsewhere. More hiring of policemen and woman and put more patrol out there

I agree with him we need tougher laws on the individuals that kill guns don’t kill people do

Mark Mattioli, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I agree with you. I believe we have a judicial system that does not blame the individual perpetrator, but the inanimate object–gun, for violence! No one wants to take responsibility or assign responsibility for an individual’s actions. Our psychology & judicial activists want to blame a person’s environment because they don’t want to offend the perpetrator, they just couldn’t help themselves! Sad, but I believe that’s how it is in America! Will America ever wake up and realize that she has lost any moral or personal responsibility?
